How we verify
CDL School Check is compiled from public records, not from who paid to be listed.

We download FMCSA's Training Provider Registry spreadsheet ("Download all Training Locations" on the registry's search page) every week. FMCSA regenerates it daily; the file date is recorded with each refresh.
We keep locations whose type is in-person, that are not marked "private enrollment only" and whose provider status is Active. That leaves about 4,200 of roughly 33,000 registered locations. Private-enrollment locations (carriers, school districts, utilities and agencies that train only their own staff), traveling trainers without a fixed address, online-only theory providers and locations whose status is blank or in review are left out.
When a provider registered the same street address more than once under different location names, we merge them and combine the classes they registered. Class and training-type details (theory, behind-the-wheel range, behind-the-wheel public road) are exactly as the provider registered them with FMCSA; we do not check them on site.
The FMCSA-registered badge means the location met those conditions in the file on the date shown. Registration is a provider's self-certification to FMCSA; it is not an inspection, accreditation or quality rating, and the registry publishes no prices or pass rates. Order within a city: full Class A programs (theory, range and public road) first, then full Class B, then by the number of programs, then alphabetical. Featured schools appear in a separate, labelled box and never change that order.
What a badge means
FMCSA-registered: The location appears in FMCSA's Training Provider Registry download as an in-person training location whose provider status is Active and that is open to the public (not private enrollment only), on the date shown. We only publish positive matches. A listing without a badge is not an accusation — most gaps are name variations between registries.
Freshness
Data was last refreshed on 2026-10-16. FMCSA republishes the registry download daily; we re-pull it weekly. Confirm a school's registration on the TPR before you pay.
